Frequently
asked questions
GENERAL Q&A
-
All appointments are scheduled from waitlists. All you've got to do is fill out the form and that will email me to tell me to add you to the list! :) The new client list for microblading is the longest, I prioritize returning clients along with all nipple tattoo requests.
If you'd like to schedule an appointment for a consultation, those are done via text! :) All you've got to do is text me and we can select a date/time for you to come in.
-
Usually the second Saturday of the month, however this can change depending on my schedule that month.
You will ALWAYS receive a booking alert email and text message once you make it into the booking list. If you're ever worried you missed a message from me, you can always text or email to check! :)
-
In order, my preferred ways of communicating are TEXTING, EMAILING, CALLING.
- Texting is the easiest and most preferred way of communication because it's quick and easy for me to reply to during a busy day. This is the best way to contact me if you have a quick question regarding a recent (or soon upcoming) appointment, or if you have arrived at the studio on the day of your appointment.

- Emailing is my second preferred way of communication. Emailing is how I will send detailed booking information and where you will receive automated messages from my software regarding scheduled appointments. I prefer this over phone calls because it gives me a paper trail of our past conversations (my memory is horrible and I like to be able to refer to past conversations!)
a.edge.tattoo@gmail.com
- Calling is my least favorite form of communication (except on booking days, I have to call you on booking day to select an appointment day/time and take a deposit payment). Very rarely do I have time to answer unplanned phone calls, especially on days I'm working. I am also not very good at returning phone calls/voicemails either. I understand that this isn't ideal for everyone, and it may change in the future, but for now that's how it works best for me!❤️
I WILL ALSO SAY, I am not always on top of my messages and get behind sometimes. Emails are usually checked once or twice a month (as I'm adding this information to my website it's been a couple weeks since I've answered emails). Please, if something is time sensitive/important, text me. If you've sent a message checking your place in line or asking a general question about something - please have patience with me if I do not respond quickly!☺️❤️
PLACES I BASICALLY NEVER CHECK -
- INSTAGRAM DM'S
- FACEBOOK DM'S
- MY PERSONAL CELL PHONE NUMBER
- CARRIER PIGEON -
The wait for NEW CLIENT MICROBLADING is the longest wait, but it's hard to predict because the number of people I can take each month fluctuates. To be vague, the wait may be 2-3 years. For a more accurate answer you're more than welcome to text or email me!
Because I prioritize returning clients and all other types of appointments (nipples, paramedical, etc.) I'm able to schedule those usually during the soonest round of booking, but at the very most two rounds depending on how many people request those appointments each month (aka 1-2 months). :) -

My studio is open by appointment only.
Appointments are set Tuesday-Friday, Saturdays available upon request. -

You must be at least 18 years old with a valid drivers license or state issued I.D. for me to tattoo you.
Anyone under the age of 18 requires a consultation with legal guardian present and will only accept the client under special circumstances. To have any type of body modification done under the age of 18 a parent/legal guardian must be present and have proof of legal guardianship (birth certificate, legal documents stating proof of guardianship), their state issued ID, as well as some form of identification for the minor (Drivers license/permit, school ID etc.).
-
Don't panic! I have to reply to those manually, and sometimes I get behind. You'll hear from me as soon as I get to my messages. :)
And remember if your question is time sensitive to text me! I'm much quicker to respond to texts. <3
-
I will not tattoo pregnant or nursing mothers. There are many reasons why pregnant women should not get any type of body modification done, here's a list of just a few of them!
When you're pregnant, your blood volume raises an average of 25%, which means heavier bleeding that will negatively effect the healing process.
Your immune system is lowered, which means it can take too long to heal.
Higher chances of passing out.
If you do get an infection, you risk passing it to the baby.
Your hormones can cause hyperpigmentation, among other skin conditions.
Your skin may become more sensitive, which means avoidable excess pain.
If during a tattoo you experience excessive pain or stress and your body goes into shock, you risk going into early labor or even a spontaneous miscarriage.

If for whatever reason you've missed my messages, even if you've been removed from the "current rotation" because you missed me a few times, you can ALWAYS reach out and I'll be able to throw you into the schedule as soon as you do. :)
I understand that my boundaries and policies might make it seem like you’ve got one chance to answer a phone call and that’s it. But that’s not the case! I am an easy, breezy beautiful covergirl - the rules and severe organization just help me keep myself organized so that I don’t actually miss any of you. <3 I will always leave a voicemail if you don’t answer, and you can always text me to touch base if you aren’t able to answer right away.

Absolutely not! :)
Just text or email me and we'll get you scheduled. No sweat!
MICROBLADING &
COSMETIC TATTOOS
-
Microblading is a form of tattooing where hairlike strokes are put into the skin using a manual handtool to mimic your natural eyebrow hairs, rather than a solid eyebrow shape using an electric machine (like traditional eyebrow tattooing).
The pigments used during cosmetic procedures are also different than regular tattoo pigments whereas they are made to soften, lighten and still keep their hue over time - which means that this procedure is semi-permanent!
Microblading allows for you to have natural looking eyebrows without having to apply makeup, however does not 100% eliminate the need for makeup especially if you like your brows to be bold sometimes.
I always tell everyone that if you're wearing a full face of makeup that you'll still want to pop a little bit of makeup over your brows just to make sure the saturation matches the rest of your face.
-
Most of my clients experience little to no pain.
I use two different types of topical anesthetics during my procedures. The first goes on before the procedure to “pre-deaden” the area and the second goes on after the skin has been broken to numb even further. I have tested quite a few products over the years and these two work extremely well. :)
I have noticed that people who have red hair and those who smoke tend to not respond as well as others to the anesthetics. Having the procedure done during your menstrual cycle can also result in heightened sensitivity.
Everyone responds to anesthetics differently, and everyone has a different pain threshold so some people can experience a little discomfort. But the tattooing part is the quickest part of the entire process and it's really not bad at all. :)
-
Permanent makeup is for the person who is looking to make their makeup routine easier and/or minimal. It is good for those who are active “on the go” and struggle with their makeup staying in place during the day.
However there are factors that play a part in the cosmetic tattoos and how they will heal from person to person. If you have excessively oily skin, large pores or have ever suffered from severe acne the hair strokes I create will heal softer or “blurred” leaving you with more of a soft powdered brow rather than the defined, separate hair strokes that it will look like immediately after your procedure. If you are in the sun or use tanning beds often the pigment will fade quicker. For those who bleed heavily or smoke you can experience more pigment "fallout" or excessive fading. You could also cause the pigment to fade quicker if you have chemical peels or have laser treatments done on or near the tattooed area. If you have taken Accutane in the past you must wait at least one year before receiving permanent makeup.
Once the area is healed make sure to wear sunscreen (unless it’s eyeliner - don’t put sunscreen in your eyes! Wear large sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun!) and keep the area moisturized.
Please remember, everyone heals differently. Results will vary depending on skin type and can only be predicted and cannot guaranteed because pigments will break down at different rates.
Microblading heals the "best" on normal to dry skin types, but that doesn't mean that it can't do well on other skin types. Skin is such a weird medium to work with - I've had clients who I didn't think would heal too well heal great! I have also had clients who I thought would heal great who didn't end up healing the way I thought they would.Following the aftercare instructions I give you will help you heal to the best ability that your skin can do! With microblading it usually takes two procedures to reach desired results - almost all clients need the first follow up appointment to add boldness and touch up any areas that the pigment has lightened.
Note: For those that are extremely picky please take into consideration that you must have realistic expectations. With this technique, as stated before, I am only able to predict how you will heal. There will be fading and areas that will need to be touched up. I am also not a robot so it is not possible for me to create the exact same hairstrokes in the exact same places on each brow. Faces aren't symmetrical. Bodies aren't symmetrical.
I will always do my best to use techniques that are specific to your skin type to ensure optimal healing however you must have patience and understand that pigment and skin are a much harder medium to work with rather than paint and a canvas. For more difficult skin types sometimes it takes 3 sessions before we reach your desired results.
And remember - my consultations will always be free so if you are interested but have some questions after reading through this FAQ you can text me to set up a consultation. :) -
Allergic reactions are possible with anything at any time, however I haven't had issues with the products I currently use.
I have had one person tell me that they had a sensitivity to the grapeseed oil I give in the aftercare kit, and over the years have had a few people experience excess sensitivity after a lashline appointment. If you are allergic/sensitive to grapeseed oil I can give you an alternative, and if your eyes are naturally very sensitive you should not schedule an appointment for a lashline enhancement.
The pigments I use contain only highest quality raw ingredients. Each pigment batch is tested for impurities and heavy metals and is approved by InkCert; fulfilling all toxicological demand of CoE ResAp. Less impurities mean that skin will be more perceptive to pigment, which will create better healed results. They're non toxic, non corrosive, non irritating, non photo-toxic; meeting all health standards and are sterilized according to medical device directive.
I offer patch tests to anyone who feels that it is necessary. I will use the anesthetics, pigment, and needles that I would use for your actual cosmetic procedure. I will hand poke tiny freckle sized dots into the edge of your hairline behind your ear so that they aren’t visible. I like to allow a week for your “freckles” to go through the healing process to ensure your body goes through the healing process without any reactions before deciding it is okay to go ahead and perform the full procedure.
If you have any further questions on ingredients or materials used during my procedures please contact me! If you would like to do a patch test you must tell me before booking a procedure appointment.
Patch tests can be scheduled after you've already successfully booked an appointment online. If for some reason you do have a reaction to any of my supplies I will refund your $100 deposit for your booked appointment along with the $50 cost of the patch test since I will not be able to tattoo you. -
Microblading usually takes about 2.5 hours, but I always tell everyone to plan for 3 just because sometimes it can take that long. Touchups lean closer to 2 hours.
Lashline enhancements usually only take me about an hour.
-
On the day of your procedure you and I work together to create the perfect brow shape and placement for your face. :)
I look at your face shape, skin tone, hair color, the muscle and bone structure of your face and will take into account any references you may have to create your desired brow.
This is the most crucial step of the brow process (and sometimes the part that takes the longest) so I make sure that we are both happy with the shape and placement before I begin tattooing you.
I also custom blend the pigment for each of my clients to ensure that when the brows heal the tone will blend perfectly.
-
Yes!
Cosmetic tattoos are considered semi-permanent due to the type of pigment used during the procedure - which is formulated to soften as it ages. (This is so that they can be refreshed every few years and not become over saturated.) Most clients require at least two procedures to reach desired results the first time - which is why your first touch up is included in the price. :)
-
If you are having Botox or Fillers done beforehand I suggest doing so at least two weeks before having cosmetic tattooing done to give the products a chance to settle in your skin.
If you would rather have the tattooing done first I suggest waiting for Botox until your skin is done "actively healing", so at least 10 days (or once they scabs are gone).
-
NO.
I actually follow the natural growth pattern of your eyebrows to help the microblading look even more natural and realistic.
If you'd like to have your brows cleaned up before your appointment that is perfectly fine, but don't do too much shaping so that we're able to include as much of your natural brows in the shape we create as possible.
-
I can only tattoo over another tattoo as long as the shape, saturation and pigment color permit so. I require a consultation before you book an appointment if you have had your brows / liner tattooed before.
If the shape is too large or uneven or the color of the pigment is too dark I will not be able to fix them by tattooing over them - they’ll only get bigger and/or darker. I suggest having a few sessions of tattoo removal on the preexisting brow before I can begin the correction procedure.
To schedule a consultation, text me!
-
I can absolutely still tattoo you, if that's what you're asking. :)
Yes, having actual eyebrow hair will give the eyebrow tattoos more depth which will make them look even more natural, but I am fully capable of tattooing over areas that have zero hair. It's not necessarily harder or easier either way.
On the day of your procedure you and I will come up with the shape and placement together, and even if there isn't any hair I can still see where they're supposed to go based off of your facial structure.
I will say that when you have zero hair it will definitely take at least two sessions to reach desired results, in some cases it may take three.
-
Yes - and microblading will not effect gray hairs!
Microblading will not effect your natural eyebrow hairs or how they grow, so you will have to tweeze or wax any stray hairs outside of the shape we make just like you normally would.
I always try to include as much of your natural eyebrow hairs inside the stencil to ensure that it's as low maintenance as possible, but I cannot control the growth of the stray hairs! Microblading will not change any gray hairs you may have, so you would still have to tint those after your new brows have healed completely.
-
FOR EYEBROWS
Within minutes after your procedure the tattooed area will begin to oxidize and appear darker. They can even appear to look more solid, rather than having defined hair strokes. You may experience minimal swelling and localized redness depending on your sensitivity level and overall health.
Don’t panic! :)
This is your body forming the protective barrier (scab) that will allow your brows to heal underneath. Swelling and redness should subside within 24-48 hours. Once the dark area begins to flake off – which can begin to happen as soon as 3 or 4 days after your procedure – that area will appear lighter, even lighter than what it looked like immediately after your procedure! This is because there is a shiny, foggy layer of new fresh skin on top of your eyebrow tattoo that needs to go through the final regenerative stages of the healing process.
Please be extremely careful not to pick at your brows while they are flaking. Picking at your brows during this stage will more than likely result in color loss and excess scarring in the area. Allow your body to naturally exfoliate itself. Over the next 4-6 weeks your skin will be settling and the shininess will dissipate and the pigment will appear to deepen back up a little - leaving you with your final healed results.
FOR LASHLINESwelling and minimal redness are common with eyeliner procedures due to how sensitive and delicate eyelids are. Both will subside within a few days after your procedure.
I recommend bringing a pair of sunglasses to wear home, as your eyes may be light sensitive. I also ask that you do not wear contact lenses to your procedure. The flaking part is a lot more minimal and less noticeable than the healing process for brows, however the timeline is about the same. They'll start to flake around day 3 or 4 and usually take about 7-10 days to completely go through the active stage of healing.
-
On average, most of my clients can go around 2-3 years between eyebrow touchups. I have some that can go 4 or 5 years, and some who like to come around the 1.5-2 year mark.
I'll say it until the day I die, "EVERYONE HEALS DIFFERENTLY."
The type of pigment used during cosmetic procedures is semi-permanent, which means that it will fade over time and need to be touched up. There are a handful of variables that can cause the pigment to fade quicker, but if you make sure to protect them they'll last as long as your body will allow it.
Once your skin has healed you must make sure to limit sun exposure - the sun (and tanning beds!) will cause fading and discoloration. You can purchase small sunscreen sticks that are easy to toss in your bag and have readily available for touch ups during the day. For eyeliner - you can wear large sunglasses for further protection.
Face peels, laser treatments and microdermabrasion will cause the pigment to lighten quicker. If you plan on receiving any of the aforementioned treatments make sure to inform your technician not to go over your eyebrows.
Eyeliner can last for quite awhile - I've seen 10+ year old eyeliner -however will need touch ups every 2-4 years to maintain the color depth.
NIPPLE & AREOLA
TATTOOING
-
Yes! Legally, they have to!
Currently I am not a participating provider with any insurance company (meaning I am unable to communicate with your insurance company - it takes a lot of work/time/energy that I am not currently capable of). However, I will supply you with everything on my end that your insurance company would need!
There was a law passed (The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998) that makes it mandatory for insurance companies to pay for post-mastectomy reconstruction, including nipple/areola tattooing. What I am able to do to is provide you with any and all information on my end that can allow for reimbursement from your insurance company.
The required information usually includes (but is not limited to) -
- A prescription with ICD10 and CPT codes. (Obtained from your doctor(s).)
- A claim reimbursement form. (Obtained from your insurance company, possibly on their website!)
- Receipt of payment for tattoo service. *Supplied by me, on the day of your appointment!
- Letter of medical necessity (Obtained from your doctor(s).)
- Copy of tattoo procedure notes. *Suppied by me, on the day of your appointment!
- Copy of your tattoo consent / medical history form. *Supplied by me, on the day of your appointment! In the past I have had clients that needed information before their procedure, if this is the case, you can email me a list of exactly what they need. :)
I have also had clients whose surgeon/surgical facility paid for their tattooing procedure, this may be another option to ask them about. :)
I am unable to guarantee reimbursement from your insurance provider, either fully or partially since I am technically considered "out of network". If your company does not provide out of network benefits please contact me and we can discuss options. It is your responsibility to call your insurance provider to find out what they require for your plan.

Timing of nipple tattooing depends on what type of surgery you had, when it was done and the location of the incisions/scars.
If the scar isn’t in the area where the nipple will go you should wait until at least 6-8 weeks post-surgery. If there is a scar in the area you are needing tattooed or if you’ve had nipple reconstruction, you should wait around 20 weeks (5 months) post-surgery. If the skin isn’t fully healed the tattoos will take longer to heal and can result in scarring, loss of color and negatively effect the healed results!
I will say, based on google searches and what I've heard from asking surgeons - I have heard a lot of different time frames when it comes to tattooing after a surgery. The best thing to do is ask your doctor specifically, and if their answer differs from what I've said here - please contact me and we can discuss possibilities. :)
-
Most people have little to no sensation left in the area after their surgical procedures. Which for this, is awesome! Every once in awhile I'll have someone who does have a sensitive area, and if this is the case we can use a little numbing cream.
If you have nipples and are needing areola correcting - it can be a little uncomfortable. But don't worry! I keep many numbing products on hand so that if you are having a #badtime - I can numb you up and make you feel little to no pain. :)
BROW LAMINATION
-
Brow lamination is basically a relaxer perm for your brows. It's a chemical process that straightens & lifts your brow hairs in order to give you more control to achieve a more polished look. Think of it as a "Brazilian Blow Out" for your brows!
This is a wonderful (and quick, around 30-40 minutes in and out) treatment that can dramatically improve the appearance of your natural eyebrow hair. If you do not have any eyebrow hair (or have extremely patchy eyebrow hair), this treatment is not possible.Even the most stubborn brow hairs can be laminated to help realign the directional hair growth and overall shape of brows for up to 8 weeks at a time.
What it's doing is perming the eyebrows from root to tip, to make them easy to manipulate into whatever direction you want them to lay. It creates the look of added volume and fullness by combing the brow hair over sparse areas and often in an upward direction, also giving the brow a polished, clean & lifted look.
-
Brow Lamination is for anyone who has hair somewhat evenly distributed throughout each eyebrow (even if it's thin or sparse!) and wants to improve the overall look of their brows.
- Those with sparse brows.
- Those who are growing out their brows.
- Those who aren't ready to commit to permanent makeup/microblading.
- Those who are looking to prolong the time between permanent makeup/microblading touchups.
- Those with coarse, unruly brows.
- Those with stubborn natural hair growth patterns. (This treatment is very popular among people whose eyebrows grow in a downward direction, making the brows look flat or downturned. With lamination, the direction can be manipulated into an upwards direction for up to 8 weeks!) -
Reasons why someone would be unable to or have to wait to have brow lamination done include but are not limited to,
- Psoriasis/Eczema
- Recent Eye Surgery
- Alopecia
- Recent or Upcoming Permanent Makeup Procedure (PMU must be healed at least 6 weeks)
- Sunburn
- Ultra-Sensitive Skin
- Blood Thinners
- Herpes Simplex
- Pink Eye
- Scar Tissue in Treatment Area
- Pregnant or Breastfeeding
*Pregnancy & breastfeeding raise hormone levels and can lead to elevated sensitivity, that can trigger adverse reactions and inconsistant results.
- Using A Brow Growth Serum
*There are so many growth serums on the market with many different ingredients/formulas that I cannot offer specific conclusive advice on pairing the growth serums & lamination formula. Please seek professional (dermatologist) advice beforehand.
- Retinol, Accutane, AHA's, BHA's
*If you are using any of the above, or any type of prescription topical for the skin, you must seek advice/clearance from your dermatologist first.
- Very Curly Eyebrows
*Due to the possible variances in porosity of curly hair, brow lamination may process unevenly.
- If You Have Used Henna To Tint Your Brows Within 10-12 Weeks Before Lamination
*Henna products are not compatible with Lacquer Brow Lamination and if used within 10-12 weeks of appilcation risk chemical reactions.
- If you regularly tint your brows, lamination will pull all of the brow tint out of your brows/skin and they will be at their natural color.
- Bleached or lightened eyebrows.*This greatly increases the risk for hair damage and is not advised to laminate bleached or lightened eyebrows. As always, if you have any questions about any of these contradictions - please reach out. :)
-
6-8 weeks.
Lamination results will vary from client to client, and will also depend on how long your hair growth cycle is, but most cases can see results up to 8 weeks (as individual hairs naturally shed they will grow back normally). It is recommended to wait 8-12 weeks between lamination appointments. -
Read through the Appointment Checklist.
-
Yes, BUT - understand that brow lamination results vary on different types of hair.
If you have very coarse hair, laminating them will help them lay down better and in a better direction, however will not make them lay down completely flat.
If you have very fragile hair, lamination can be quite effective in laying the hair flat, but it does risk damaging the hair - as this is a chemical treatment. (Broken/Damaged/Weakened hair will shed with your normal hair growth cycle and new hairs will grow back, but it can take months before your hair growth cycles.)
If you have out of control hair growth patterns, especially if your hair is also medium/coarse, lamination may only help the hairs lay in a better position and not make them lay completely flat against your skin. -
Risks include, but are not limited to -
- Severe Burning
- Flaking, Peeling Skin
- Blisters in Area of Treatment
- Swelling in Area of Treatment
- Hair Damage
- If you regularly tint your brows, lamination will pull all of the brow tint out of your brows/skin and they will be at their natural color.
*If an allergic reaction occurs, you must apply a cool compress to the area and seek medical attention immediately.
Normal Reactions- Mild Tingling
- Slight Redness
- Warm SensationIf you are interested in this procedure but are worried about allergic/adverse reactions, I offer patch tests! If you have ever had an allergic reaction to any type of chemical treatment (hair or skincare), or just have highly sensitive skin in general, I recommend a patch test and will not perform a full procedure until we know it is safe.
-
You just have to make sure to give everything enough time in between.
Brow lamination can actually make microblading/brow tattoos look even better - especially between touchups! :) Here's a little cheat sheet for timing these types of appointments.
LAMINATION BEFORE MICROBLADING/PERMANENT MAKEUP
At least 2 weeks.LAMINATION AFTER MICROBLADING/PERMANENT MAKEUP
At least 6 weeks.LAMINATION BEFORE BOTOX/FILLERS (IN TREATMENT AREA)
At least 2 weeks.LAMINATION AFTER BOTOX/FILLERS (IN TREATMENT AREA)
At least 2 weeks.LAMINATION BEFORE TINTING WITH TRADITIONAL BROW TINTS
Some people will tint at the same time as a lamination, so you can do this whenever you would like.
LAMINATION BEFORE or AFTER TINTING WITH HENNA PRODUCTS
Wait a minimum of 10-16 weeks.***
LAMINATION BEFORE TINTING WITH TINTS THAT CONTAIN METALLIC SALTS
Wait a minimum of 3 weeks.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR BROWS TINTED BEFORE LAMINATION.
LAMINATING AFTER TINTING WILL LIGHTEN THE TINT UP TO 2 SHADES.***LAMINATION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HENNA. IT CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE THE HAIR OR CAUSE ADVERSE REACTIONS TO YOUR SKIN. IF YOU HAVE TINTED WITH HENNA IN THE PAST YOU MUST WAIT THE MINIMUM OF 10 WEEKS BEFORE LAMINATING YOUR BROWS.
-
Cleaning up strays/overgrowth and minimal shaping is totally fine, however I strongly advise to not trim your brow hair at all. This can cause your brows to look choppy after lamination.
Do not wax/thread/remove hair immediately before lamination. If you want to do it beforehand, give your skin a few days to heal.
